Which PowerBank capacity (mAh) should I choose?

The capacity (mAh) is related to the size and weight of the PowerBank. Therefore, a Powerbank with a high capacity (mAh) will weigh and occupy more than a Powerbank with a lower capacity.

How much / many times you can charge your devices depends on the PowerBank's capacity (mAh), compared to the battery capacity (mAh) in the devices you want to charge, minus power consumption / loss for conversion.

As a rule of thumb, the following theoretical formula can be used to estimate consumption / needs:

Current PowerBank capacity X Average conversion rate X Mobile battery health / Mobile battery capacity = Number of charges

Example: 10000 x 0.8 x 0.9 / 2815 = 2.56 times (+/- 0.5-1 times)

A very cheap or no-name PowerBank will typically have a significantly lower energy efficiency than a better PowerBank, and there is also a lot of cheating with the stated capacity. It is not unusual for a cheap PowerBank with, for example, 10,000mAh in stated capacity, in practice actually only be at, for example, 5000mAh.

Typically, a ~10000mAh USB Powerbank will cover your needs for emergency charging of an iPhone / Smartphone or iPad / Tablet PC when it comes to trips, weekend trips and holidays, etc.

If you want to charge heavier USB based devices and several devices - and possibly over a longer period without access to a socket like camping, sailing, travel and in summerhouses, then stronger Powerbanks of 15,000mAh to 30,000mAh are recommended.
